'Boyanika' launches Hand-loom Expo in Nilachal Urban Haat

With an aim to avail opportunity to market different hand-loom products of state during a peak tourist season of December ‘Boyanika’ organized ‘Special Hand-loom Expo 2012-13’ in Nilachal Urban Haat of Puri on Wednesday night.

Minister of Hand-loom, Textile and Handicraft, Odisha Saraswati Hembram inaugurated the Expo accompanied by Commissioner cum Secretary Usha Padhee. Director of Hand-loom Sanjay Kumar Habada, Managing Director of Boyanika Satya Ranjan Sahu and Puri collector Naba Kumar Nayak were present on the occasion. The Expo is being sponsored by Development Commissioner for hand-loom under aeiges of Ministry of Textile, government of India. Director of Hand-loom Odisha is implementing the state level Expo through ‘Boyanika’. Leading private cooperative societies for weavers are participating the fair which will open from 11AM to 9Pm and continue till January 2, 2013. Out of 29 stalls 17 stalls are fixed for sale of hand-loom products while the rest 12 stalls for handicraft products. In her inaugural address Hembram stated that ‘Boyanika’, the apex body for weavers of state is running profit from 2006-07 year.

Expressing her pleasure over profit of Rs 52 crore during 2011-12 minister said Boyanika is targeting Rs 80 crore turnover in 2012-13 fiscal. She assured the government is taking several measures for all round social and economic development of weavers.

Forecasting a bright future for the traditional weavers of Odisha commissioner Padhee outlined various welfare programmes being under taken will go on for weavers with expanded views for exploring every new horizon and marketing during the coming years. This is learnt to be the 6th consecutive special Expo being organized by ‘Boyanika’ during this fiscal.
